This is the shade cloth we supply for garden fences, and the reason one cloth covers both jobs is that shade cloth and a privacy screen are the same weave at different densities: run light, it shades a bed or a patio; run dense, it screens a boundary and takes the wind off a fence line. Ordering it as shade cloth means the rate is chosen per job rather than picked from a stock grade, anywhere across the range. The HDPE yarn carries UV resistance, so the cloth holds its rate and its colour outdoors.
Shade cloth and a privacy screen are the same knitted weave at different densities, which is why one roll can do both jobs on a property. Run light, it shades a patio or a bed; run dense, it screens a boundary and takes the wind off a fence line. Ordering it as shade cloth means the rate is set for the job rather than taken from a stock grade.

The rate you order decides which of the two jobs the cloth does. A light rate lets most of the light through, so a patio or a bed behind it still gets what it needs; a dense rate breaks the view across a fence and takes the edge off wind on a boundary that faces open ground. Because it is the same knitted HDPE either way, the fixing does not change: the cloth is cut to the height you give us and tied or wired along the fence. UV resistance is worked into the yarn, so the rate does not drift toward the light end after a season.

The cloth goes along a garden fence, across a patio, over a pergola, around a pool and over a yard boundary, and the rate is chosen per span. Because it is supplied by the roll, one order covers a fence run and a pergola from the same cloth. Households setting trays under the same cloth often pair it with a planting bag, and the wider shade net range covers the reflective and heavy grades where a different cover is wanted.

The rate comes first: light where the ground behind the cloth still has to grow, dense where the boundary has to screen. Colour is set at the same time, so a fence line can be matched to the timber behind it in brown or sand, or run in green or black to read as a boundary screen. A knitted monofilament net covers the shading job where a finer weave is wanted, while this cloth covers the fence screening and windbreak work.

Height, roll length, shade rate and colour are all made to order, so the first detail to confirm is the run you are covering and what has to grow behind it. Cloth ships in PP woven bags. Buyers tracking how shade cloth performs across a season can follow trade coverage such as HortiDaily and FreshPlaza for what is being installed.
Is shade cloth the same as a privacy screen?
It is the same knitted weave at a different density. Ordered light it shades, ordered dense it screens a boundary and cuts wind.
How do I fix it to a fence?
The roll is cut to the fence height and tied or wired along the line. A bound edge with grommets can be fitted where the cloth is tied rather than stapled.
Can I order a different rate, height or colour?
Yes. Rate, height, roll length and colour are all made to order. Tell us the run and what grows behind it.
Tell us the run you are covering, what has to grow behind it and the colour you are working to, and we will confirm the roll and the packing that suit your order.
