This is the sunshade net we supply for balconies and terraces, and it is one of the few in the range where the fixing decides how well it performs. On a post-and-rail frame the net is laced rather than clipped: the rope runs through the grommets in a zig-zag from post to post and is tensioned at one end, so the panel is held evenly along its whole length instead of hanging from a few points. That is what keeps a wide span flat. The net is knitted HDPE with UV resistance in the yarn.

Product Description

On a balcony or a deck the frame is usually already there, and how the net is attached to it decides whether the cover looks fitted or improvised. This is the sunshade net we supply for that job, made to be laced rather than clipped: the rope runs through the grommets from post to post and is tensioned at one end.

Lacing a Net Onto a Frame

Clipping or tying a net at a handful of points concentrates the load where the ties are, which is why a wide panel ends up bellied between two posts and the corners take the strain. Lacing changes that: the rope runs through each grommet in turn and is pulled tight at one end, so the tension is spread along the whole edge and the panel stays flat across a wide span. It also means the net can be re-tensioned later without taking it down, which matters on a cover that is left up through the summer. The same method works on a balcony rail with fewer points.

Balconies, Decks and Terraces

The net goes onto a post-and-rail deck frame, along a balcony rail, across a terrace screening frame and around a patio where the posts are already in. Because it is cut to the height you give us, one order covers a deck side and a longer terrace run from the same cloth. Households screening a bed behind the same net often pair it with a planting bag, and the wider shade net range covers the reflective grades where a heat reflective cover is wanted instead.

Rope, Grommets and Tensioning

The rope and the grommet spacing are what make lacing work, so both are set at the same time as the panel: a wider spacing on a long run would let the net bow between points, and a rope that is too short cannot be tensioned after the panel has taken up its slack. Zip ties are supplied alongside for the ends and for anywhere the frame is too thick to lace. A knitted monofilament net covers the shading job where a finer weave is wanted, while this net covers the balcony and terrace sunshade work.

Sizes, Packing and Order Detail

Height, roll length, shade rate and grommet spacing are all made to order, so the first detail to confirm is the height of the frame, the total run and the post spacing. Nets ship in PP woven bags with the rope and ties packed alongside. Buyers tracking how sunshade net performs on decks can follow trade coverage such as HortiDaily and FreshPlaza for what is being installed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the net fixed to a post and rail frame?
It is laced: the rope runs through each grommet from post to post and is tensioned at one end, so the load is spread along the whole edge.

Can it be re-tensioned later?
Yes. Lacing can be pulled up again without taking the net down, which matters on a cover left up through the summer.

Can I order a different height, run or grommet spacing?
Yes. Height, roll length, shade rate, colour and grommet spacing are all made to order.

Tell us the frame height, the total run and the post spacing, and the colour you are working to, and we will confirm the roll and the packing that suit your order.
