Transplanting is the step where a seedling is most likely to be set back. The roots come out of the container into open air, the medium falls away from them, and the plant spends a week or two re-establishing instead of growing. On a crop that only has a short season, that pause is the difference between a full head and a thin one. The alternative is to leave the plant in its pot and put both in the ground, which is what a plant-and-pot seedling pot is for: no root disturbance, no transplant shock, and no plastic to remove and dispose of afterwards. The larger bags in the same range are the reusable fabric type with sturdy handles.

Product Description

Every transplant is a small setback for the plant, and on a short season there is no time to make it up. The way round it is to remove the step altogether rather than to try to do it more gently.

Pot and Plant: Removing the Transplant Step

The seedling pot is put in the ground with the plant still in it. Nothing is lifted out, no medium is shaken off the roots, and the root tips that have been pruned at the wall are never exposed to air. For the plant that means there is no pause at all: it carries on growing from the day it goes in, which is the whole reason the method is used on crops that are planted on a tight schedule. There is a second benefit that matters commercially, which is that the pot is not plastic, so there is nothing to collect, stack or send to waste at the end of planting. The larger bags in the range are the reusable fabric type, for growers who want the container back.

Balconies, Greenhouses and Commercial Nurseries

The bags are used on balconies and terraces where weight and space both matter, in greenhouses where stock is graded and moved through the season, and in commercial nurseries ordering bulk packs. The fabric breathes and retains water at the same time, so a bag that dries out on a balcony does not dry out as fast as a plastic pot would, and the handles make a planted bag something that can be lifted by one person. Growers ordering for the same houses often add a planting bag for the larger stages, and where young plants also need shade, the shade net range covers that separately.

Handles, Fabric and Drainage

The handles are not a detail on a fabric bag, because a bag full of wet medium is heavy and the handle joint is where it will fail if anywhere. They also change how the bag is used: with handles it can be moved through the season, repositioned for light, or brought under cover for a cold night; without them it stays where it was put. The fabric side of it is drainage and aeration at once, so excess water leaves and the root zone still gets air, which is what keeps a container crop from sitting wet after heavy watering. The heavy duty weave is what allows the bag to be used for more than one cycle. Where a round rigid container is wanted instead, a grow bag with air pruning seams is also available.

Sizes, Packing and Order Detail

Sizes run from 1 to 400 gallon, with anything outside that made to order; seedling pots sit at the small end and the same fabric is used for the larger growing-on bags. Colour, contrast binding and logo are set with the order, and a free sample is available so the fabric can be judged before a bulk run. Bulk packs are supplied for nurseries ordering by the thousand. Tell us the crop, the stage, the size and the quantity, and we will confirm the specification. Buyers tracking what is going into balcony, greenhouse and nursery production can follow trade coverage such as HortiDaily and FreshPlaza for what growers are installing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does plant-and-pot mean in practice?
The seedling goes into the ground in its pot, so the roots are never lifted or exposed. There is no transplant pause and no plastic to clear afterwards. Tell us the crop and the planting schedule.

Do the larger bags have handles?
Yes, they are fitted with sturdy handles, which matters because a bag of wet medium is heavy and the handle joint is where it would fail. Tell us the size and we will confirm the specification.

Can the bags be used for more than one season?
The heavy duty non woven fabric is made to resist tearing and to be reused. Tell us how long you need the bags to last and we will advise on the weight.

Tell us the crop, the stage, the size and the quantity, and whether seedling pots are needed, and we will confirm the specification, the sample and the packing that suit your order.
