Root Control Pot Air Pruning Container for Nursery Plant Growth

Freight is where nursery containers quietly lose money. A round pot arrives full of air, and a pallet of them is mostly empty space, so the price at the nursery gate carries a shipping cost for volume that is not product. This container is made as a flat panel and formed into shape on site: the panels stack tight, more of them fit in a container, and the warehouse space they need between seasons is a fraction of what rigid round pots take. The wall carries the same air pruning slots either way, and the panel is thick enough at 0.6 to 1.2 mm to hold its circle once the edge is joined.

Product Description

A plant does not care whether its container arrived as a pot or as a panel. The buyer does. Container cost is not only the unit price on the invoice; it is the unit price plus the freight for the air inside each pot plus the floor space occupied while the pots wait for planting season. Forming the container from a flat panel changes all three.

Flat Panels, Stacked Tight, Lower Freight

Shipped flat, the panels nest and stack, so a pallet carries far more container wall than the same pallet loaded with assembled pots. At destination the panel is rolled or folded to the chosen diameter and the edge is closed, which means the same shipment can serve several pot sizes rather than one. Between seasons the panels can be stored flat on a rack instead of occupying greenhouse bench space. The panel is rigid enough to hold its shape once formed, and because the material is heavy-duty PE it resists cracking and UV degradation, so a panel that is stored and re-formed keeps its wall. The same flat-shipping logic runs through the whole root control container range, and for growers working across several crops it sits alongside the shade net and planting bag ranges.

The Slot Design and Why the Tip Stops

The wall is perforated with open slots and embossed cones, and the openings are the working part of the design. A root tip that grows into one reaches air rather than more compost, stops elongating, and the plant breaks fresh roots further back along the same root. The result is a fibrous root ball distributed through the volume rather than a coil pressed against the wall. Because the slots also drain freely, the container can be used under overhead irrigation or in a greenhouse border without water sitting at the base. Cells of 25 to 49 and diameters of 20 cm to 70 cm cover seedling work through to young tree stock.

Round, Square and Rectangular

The same panel forms a round, square or rectangular container depending on the edge closure, which matters when bench space is planned rather than estimated: square and rectangular containers sit edge to edge without the wasted corners a circle leaves, so a given bench holds more plants. Round containers suit tree stock and larger specimens where root ball shape matters more than density. Panels are supplied in 0.6, 0.7, 0.8 and 1 mm thicknesses and sizes are made to order, so the diameter, height and base can be agreed against the crop rather than picked from a fixed list.

Nursery Rows and Commercial Greenhouses

Commercial nurseries use these containers where plants are held for a season and then lifted into the field or sold on: tree seedlings, hedging, and greenhouse vegetable propagation. Because the roots are already fibrous and spread through the volume, plants lift without a root pruning step at planting. Minimum order is 1000 square metres with an FOB range of USD 0.35 to 0.99 per square metre, samples are available, and delivery runs about 15 days after deposit. Payment is accepted by L/C, T/T, Western Union or Paypal. Trade coverage of how nurseries manage container stock, such as HortiDaily and FreshPlaza, is worth following if you are specifying for more than one crop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the containers arrive assembled?
They ship flat and are formed on site to the diameter you choose, which is what keeps the freight cost down and lets one shipment cover several pot sizes.

Can I use them for tree stock as well as seedlings?
Yes. Diameters run from 20 cm to 70 cm and heights from 20 cm to 70 cm, so the same wall serves seedling tubes through to young trees. Tell us the crop and the holding season and we will confirm the size.

Will the panel keep its shape once formed?
Yes. The PE panel is heavy-duty and supplied at 0.6 to 1.2 mm, thick enough to hold a circle or a square under wet compost through a full season.

Tell us the pot size, the shape you want and the quantity, and we will confirm the panel thickness, the base diameter and the packing that suit your order.
